Copy of email text: Dear Colleagues, At 8pm on the 29th of March, millions of people across Australia and the world will participate in Earth Hour, using the simple action of turning off their lights for one hour, to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming. Climate change is the greatest challenge to our future and our children’s future, but when each of us makes small changes, we make a massive collective difference, and hand our kids a better future. Throughout 2008, I will be helping to raise awareness in our workplace about climate change science – causes, effects, and most importantly the solutions that we will use to solve the problem, from international government policies right down to small, personal actions. The first of many activities that I will be undertaking this year is to coordinate participation in Earth Hour 2008. During Earth Hour 2007, Sydney reduced its energy consumption by 10.2%, equivalent to taking 48,000 cars off the road for a year. This year, Queenslanders will join Sydney and 20 other global cities to achieve a similar feat. There are many ways you can support Earth Hour, from turning out the lights and appliances at home or work on the night through to hosting a candle-lit Earth Hour dinner party! www.earthhour.org has plenty of information about different fun ways you can participate. If you are ready to take the lead in reducing your emissions, register at www.earthhour.org and email me to let me know. Earth Hour is all about raising awareness and working together, so lets see how many of our colleagues can be encouraged to participate! See me if you have any questions or suggestions for Earth Hour 2008. Sincerely, Your local Climate Hero
