Do you want to secure a safe climate future for our children?

Our future is at stake if we stand by and allow climate change to develop further. Now, we have the opportunity to build a sustainable, clean energy economy, to lead the world in the challenge, and to hand a better future to our kids.

QPSU Hero 1

In a survey in 2007, 80% of QPSU members rated Climate Change in their top three issues for the federal election, and in response, QPSU has developed, with the support of the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF), the Climate Heroes program. Through this program, every QPSU member has the choice to be part of the solution, instead of being part of the problem.

Individually, Heroes will be educated about all dimensions of the issue and motivated to take personal action at home and in their communities.

Collectively, and with the guidance of the QPSU organizing team, Climate Heroes will encourage their colleagues to take up sustainable behaviours, and will lead reductions in their workplace’s carbon footprint.

become a climate hero!

Politically, Heroes will become informed and empowered to influence the important decisions that the Federal government will be making this year on climate policy – on things like the Garnaut Review, setting reduction targets for 2020, the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target, the implementation of Emissions Trading, and how we relate with other nations through the UN climate negotiation processes.

Hundreds of QPSU members have already agreed to become Climate Heroes.

If you care about sustainability and are ready to change your daily practices for the better, without changing your lifestyle, if you want to help create a better, more sustainable workplace, and ultimately a better world, then you should consider becoming a QPSU Climate Hero.

We'll provide you with everything you need: training, resources, materials, and a team of organisers to support you and answer your questions. On everything from climate science and policy to workplace organising and motivation, we are here to help you achieve the best outcomes for your workplace and the planet.

Between now and your ‘Sustainable Christmas Party’ in December, we’ll send you material and ideas for nine different Hero Missions, approximately one every month, and each focusing on different areas that help to address climate change, like waste reduction, transport, energy and even climate-friendly food!

A mission could include putting up a poster at work, inviting your colleagues to participate in a national event like Earth Hour or World Environment Day, or placing stickers to remind people to turn the lights and computers off when they leave the office. Every mission will help to reduce the pressure on our planet’s atmosphere, and contribute to the nation-wide effort encouraging our politicians to take strong and fair action on climate change.

To be a part of this exciting new campaign for QPSU members, simply fill in the Hero Application form.

When you sign up as a hero, we’ll mail you a hard-copy kit for each mission, your QPSU organiser will give you a phone call to talk you through each kit, and all the resources will also be available online, through this website.
