QPSU.net: A note about computer viruses

Computer viruses are a serious problem. Many viruses are distributed via an infected file attached to an email and, once a machine has been infected, the viruses can distribute itself on to other computers. Recently, some viruses generate infected emails that are apparently from a person, even though that person's computer has not been infected.
The QPSU.NET email service is a web-based email service. Very few viruses can automatically execute from within an email. Consequently, they can only infect a computer if the attachment containing the virus is accessed / run by the user.
Users can upgrade the QPSU.NET email service to a POP account that can then be accessed using an email program (such as Lotus Notes, Eudora or Outlook), rather than this web page. The upgraded email service includes automatic virus protection and SPAM blocking facility. However, even this protection is not infallible.
Never open a suspicious email attachment. As a general practice, any email attachment should be saved to disk and then scanned with a current anti-virus program before it is opened.
Unfortunately, like many public email services, QPSU.NET can be prone to virus attack. It is the responsibility of users to take all appropriate precautions (virus protection / fire wall software, and the sensible handling of email attachments) to protect their own computers.
