HP Phase 2 - It's time. Finish it now!

Earlier this year union members successfully campaigned to get the interdisciplinary review of the Phase 2 evaluation process on track.

As a direct result of HP Guides' efforts the Deputy Director General of Queensland Health publicly committed that Phase 2 would be completed by 30 September 2009 - exactly twelve months after it was originally supposed to be completed.

The workforce and management representatives have been working tirelessly to ensure that the process is completed fairly and on time - and a large proportion of the work has been completed by the Work Level Evaluation Team (WLET).

However with only a week to go we became concerned that under current resourcing the final part of the process may not be completed by the due date.

In good faith Alex Scott, our union's General Secretary, sought a meeting with the Director General of Queensland Health to discuss progress and how the deadline of 30 September could be met.

Alex has also written to all HP members asking them to join in a collective show of support for the completion of the Phase 2 evaluation process.

With the letter, members have been sent a badge to wear today (Thursday 1 October 2009) - the day after the Phase 2 deadline is due to expire.

Together our members have proven that when we stand together we get results and we need to do it again.

Please encourage all members to wear their badge today and together let's send a message to Queensland Health - It's time. Finish it NOW!.

We have also sought assistance from the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) to resolve the outstanding issues.

As a result of the threatened action the Director General agreed to a last minute meeting where he has committed to involve QIRC Deputy President Bloomfield in facilitating an accelerated program of meetings of senior Work Level Evaluation Team. We must continue to apply pressure to ensure as early a completion date as is possible - preferably in October.
