Public works members endorse proposed agreements for all business units

QPSU Public Works members outside of the Core agreement have endorsed the proposed agreements for all of their business units, putting these agreements on track for certification.  This is a great result and a reflection of the dedication and patience shown by QPSU members and delegates as they worked towards new agreements.

We have bargained through one of the toughest economic climates we have seen in decades and won strong agreements. We have shown that by standing together we can make a difference.

The QPSU poll of members in GOPrint, QFleet, SDS, CITEC, SGPSS, Project Services, QFleet and the QBuild office resulted in large margins in favour of certification in each case.

The margin of votes received in favour of certification in each business unit is as follows:

  • CITEC: 90%
  • GoPrint: 100%
  • QBuild:  98%
  • QFleet: 100%
  • SDS: 100%
  • State Government Security:  85%.
What happens next?

The government ballot of all employees has also closed and and also favours certification.  All business units will be brought to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission on 1 December so that they can be certified and the pay rises and other provisions take effect.  Back pay for the agreements will go through after certification.

As mentioned in previous updates, the date of back pay for each business unit is as follows:

  • CITEC: 1 October 2009
  • GoPrint: 1 August 2009
  • QBuild office: 1 October 2009
  • QFleet: 1 August 2009
  • SDS: 1 August 2009
  • State Government Security: 1 August 2009

The government has advised that back pay for all business units will be received on 16 December, the final pay period before Christmas.

Congratulations in achieving strong new collective agreements and wage increases in Public Works.  If you have any questions about the new
agreements, you can call 1800 177 244 or email afb@qpsu.org.au

Vote in the QPSU poll on new collective agreements for public works

After months of campaigning by QPSU members and discussions with the employer, the proposed public works collective agreements have been drafted and it is now up to you to have your say on whether or not they should be certified.

The agreements include wage rises of 4.5% for the first year and 4.0% for each of the following two years of the agreement; or $34 a week, whichever is the greater increase.

If the agreements are approved and certified, the pay increases will be back-dated to the first day of the new agreements:

(Please note: some earlier draft copies of the State Government Security agreement have been circulated with incorrect back pay dates. The dates above are correct for each agreement.)

The agreements include other provisions relating to employment security, hours of work, and other matters. You can view a full copy of the proposed agreements using the links to the left.

The poll for all of the agreements will be run at the same time.

It is easy to have your say in the poll. Just visit www.qpsu.org.au/vote and follow the steps. For those who do not have any access to the internet, a postal vote of QPSU members will be sent out shortly.

Please use only one method - either postal or online - to vote in the QPSU poll. Multiple votes will be disregarded.

The government will be holding a ballot of all employees at the same time as the QPSU poll of members. It is important that you vote in both the QPSU poll of members and the government ballot of all employees. Union members and delegates have been the driving forces behind the creation of a new agreement and it is important that their voices be heard.

Please be sure to vote in both polls by the closing date of 25 November.
